Period of Secondment: Up to three years
Salary: $77,146 – $133,183 (Secondment)

Note: Effective April 1, 2024 the salary range for this position is $82,217 to $141,937 per year in compliance with the AMAPCEO collective agreement provisions. The new rates, effective retroactive to April 1, 2024, were recently confirmed and dates for implementation of the new salary rates are still to be determined.

*Salary and benefits will be reimbursed directly to the school board.

Applications are invited for the position of Math Proficiency Test (MPT) Education Officer at EQAO.

The Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) creates and delivers engaging online curriculum-based large-scale assessments for students that lead to insights into their learning. EQAO is seeking dynamic individuals interested in working in a fast-paced environment using cutting-edge approaches to online assessment items and design. The agency’s continued modernization is part of an exciting mandate to contribute to the continuous improvement of Ontario’s publicly funded education system.

Education officers are responsible for working on the design, development, review and implementation of the MPT, as well as the related scoring and reporting, to ensure that all aspects of the MPT, and the related materials and processes, are developed in accordance with The Ontario Curriculum expectations and best practices in large-scale mathematics assessment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will

  • lead and/or coordinate the development of education policies and resources to ensure consistency in application of legislation, policies and standards through the province.
  • provide expertise in order to coordinate the planning, development, marking and reporting of the MPT.
  • possess in-depth knowledge of Ontario’s elementary and secondary math curricula.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

The preferred candidate will have

  • a current Ontario College of Teachers Certificate of Qualification and Registration and be in good standing with the College and
  • a minimum of 5 years’ teaching or equivalent demonstrated educational experience.

DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES:

The preferred candidate will provide evidence of the following:

  • knowledge of education theory and pedagogy;
  • a deep understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion issues and how they impact learning, performance and well-being;
  • understanding of online assessment design, including the creation of engaging assessments that incorporate an enhanced user experience with technology-enhanced items;
  • familiarity with EQAO’s assessment frameworks and processes, and large-scale assessment practices;
  • understanding of the relationship between large-scale provincial assessments and classroom assessments;
  • a thorough understanding of the Ontario mathematics curriculum, as well as experience implementing it;
  • familiarity with Ministry of Education documents such as Growing Success and Learning for All;
  • relationship-management skills and an ability to develop and foster positive networks with a variety of interested parties;
  • experience delivering online learning programs;
  • project planning, management and assessment skills;
  • effective team-building and participation-management skills;
  • superior presentation and facilitation skills;
  • proven initiative and effective skills in problem solving, collaboration and teamwork;
  • proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Excel and Outlook);
  • comfort with learning new technology and software applications;
  • good oral, written and electronic communication skills; and
  • ability to read, speak and write in French (this would be an asset).
